Read More	Genevieve Katherine Rost, age 89, of Dickinson, North Dakota, formerly of Golva, North Dakota, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Silha Funeral Home in Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Golva with Father Dan Berg officiating. Rite of Committal will be held in the Wibaux City Cemetery in Wibaux, Montana. Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements. Genevieve was born on September 17, 1925 in Golva to Frank and Catherine (Jackale) Schrom. She began her education in Golva and graduated from Golva High School with the class of 1942. She then went on to attend Dickinson State College for two years where she earned a first grade teaching certificate. In 1944, she went to work for the bank in Golva. In 1947, when Golva was incorporated as a village, she was nominated to be the village clerk. This position was then combined with the village treasurer position. During her life, Genevieve worked as city auditor of Golva, was the school clerk for Lone Tree School #6, worked on the Board of Equalization and bookkeeper at Golden West Electric Co-op from 1952 until 1969. Totaling up her time (with as many as four jobs at a time) she served her community for over 108 years. Besides, in her spare time, for 41 years, she helped farmers with their income tax returns. Genevieve’s nickname was “Jennie” (“Don’t spell it “Jenny” ‘cause that’s a mule!). She had a “witty” sense of humor and was always quick with a comeback. Dad said that Jennie was one of the sharpest ladies in Golden Valley County. Jennie’s father, Frank Schrom, is a brother to Emelia (Schrom) Finneman, who is the mother of Norb Finneman, Roman Finneman, Eleanor Clarin, Lorine Knudson and Ralph Finneman making them her first cousins and to us a second cousin. Genevieve married Walter “Walt” Rost on December 1, 1973 in Golva. Walter and Genevieve lived on his Beaver Hill farm four miles west of Wibaux. In 1994, they moved into the Golden Valley Manor in Beach, North Dakota. In 1997, they donated the farm to Home on the Range at Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. For the past five years she has resided in St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her brother, Albert; her parents, Frank and Catherine; a brother-in-law, Jim; and nephew, Joe. Genevieve is survived by her sister, Christine Stewart; her nieces, Patty Stewart and Judy (Alan) Stricker; her nephew, Rick Stewart; her cousin-in-law, Christine Finneman and the “second cousins”.
