Genevieve Lee Carstensen was born on July 29, 1938, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Richard and Jenny (Bonnema) Van Gronigen. She attended school in Sioux Falls. Following her education, Jen worked at a radio station in Canton, South Dakota. Jen and Wendel Carstensen were united in marriage on Feb 3, 1968, at the Canton Lutheran Church in Canton. They made their home in Le Mars. Along with caring for her family, Jen also worked at Wells Dairy and Westmar College. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, where she taught Sunday School. Jen enjoyed shopping, crocheting, and reading. She will be lovingly remembered by three children, Mark Foss of Atlantic, IA, Vickie Case and her husband Aaron of Hoffman Estates, IL, and Sheila Konz and her friend Doug Smith of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Christopher, Kelsey, Tyler, Ashley, and Amber; and a sister, Betty Barone of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendel on August 21, 2008; a son-in-law, George Konz; a sister, Gerry Golden; and a brother, Richard Van Gronigen.
