She was the youngest of nine children. She was raised as a Catholic and made her First Communion in 1908 at St. Mary's church in Moline. Her early education was at the Boston School in Chautauqua County, followed by graduation from Moline High School. Her father died when she was 8 years old. She was absent from the household in the 1910 census and later lived in Kansas City. She worked for a time as a telephone operator. By 1916 she was a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, IL, where she had worked for several years. In 1916 she was one of 35 nurses chosen to work in an English hospital in France at the 23rd Hospital base in Etaples. She sailed from New York on the Rotterdam on February 2, 1916. She wrote several letters home, mostly to her mother Sallie and her sister Irene, some with the return address of "Somewhere in France." Her letters describe hardship as a nurse, interspersed with sightseeing. She set sail for return to the US on Sep 8, 1916. Genevieve might have met her husband, Bertram O. Fisher, during or soon after the War. His religion was of the Jewish faith. They married in 1923 and lived in Los Angeles where Bert had his own business called "Babyland." They had at least one child, Judith Jean, who was 3 1/2 in the 1930 census. Soon after her death in Los Angeles in 1958, Genevieve was flown to Colma south of San Francisco and buried next to her husband in the Fisher family plot. Children: Judith F.
