Genevieve Schaefers was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Faulkton, the daughter of John and Louisa Schaefers. She grew up in the Polo-Orient area and graduated from Polo High School in 1944. Read More	SCHAEFERS, Genevieve (Locke)∼Genevieve Locke, 68, formerly of the Polo-Miller area, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 1995, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Genevieve Schaefers was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Faulkton, the daughter of John and Louisa Schaefers. She grew up in the Polo-Orient area and graduated from Polo High School in 1944. In 1945 she started work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Miller. She married Kenneth Locke in 1948. She retired in 1965 because of failing eyesight due to diabetes. With the help of the Service to the Blind, in 1966 she moved to Pierre, where she owned and operated a telephone answering service for 15 years. She sold her business in 1980 and moved to Sioux Falls, where she attended the Rehabilitation Center for the Blind for three months. She worked as a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in the nutrition program. She was honored by the Bergeland Center in Sioux Falls for her many hours of volunteer work. Mrs. Locke was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bergeland Center for Seniors, Telephone Pioneers of America, American Council for the Blind, and the South Dakota and Minnesota American Diabetes Associations. She was also a research patient at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. She is survived by a brother, Jack Schaefers, Polo; and two sisters: Sally Bushfield, Sun City, Ariz., and Kathleen "Kay" Martinmaas, Miller. Funeral mass: St. Liborius Church, Polo, SD. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Polo. Visitation: Monday afternoon at Reck Funeral Home, Miller. A scripture rosary service: 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Miller.
