OTTO ERBE SERVICES FIRST HELD AT THE LATE RESIDENCE Martin Kreutner Who Passed Away Friday, Feb. 6th, Was Born in Baden, Germany, September 20th, 1853 The last rites over the body of the late Martin Kreutner who passed away on Friday of last week were held at the late residence, 1321 4th Street, Sunday at 1:45 p.m., the Rev. Otto Erbe, pastor of Trinity Lutheran, read the ritual and said a prayer. Services at the church at 2 p.m. were opened with a choir song by a quartet, Mesdames O. Erbe and Henry Meyerman and Messers. O. Braklow and Henry Meyerman, Miss Mildred Meyerman at the organ. The selection was: "Abide With Me," follwed with a solo after the sermon "Lass mich gehen". The pastor based his remarks on Genesis 33:3 - Yea, God loved the people, all His saints are in thy hand. The many beautiful floral tributes were in charge of Mrs. O.C. Herman, Mrs. Louis Wiernsberger, Miss Louise Herman. The Pallbearers Grandchildren of the deceased acted as pallbearers, Fred Krumm, Herbert Krumm, Walter Rinderknecht, Albert Rinderknecht, Floyd Kreutner, Clarence Kreutner. Interment was made at St. Paul's Cemetery, Mackey. Life Sketch Martin Kreutner was born September 20, 1853, in Bahlingen, Baden, Germany, seventh of eight children born to Michael and Barbara Kreutner. The peasants of that section of the old fatherland had occupied their farms for generations, taking great pride in the establishment of school and church in their community and providing their children with the best of secular and religious training. Influenced by the wholesome civic and religious atmosphere of his environment the deceased grew to manhood under ideal conditions, labored with brothers and sisters on the homestead of his parents, where he was united in marriage on January 18, 1877 to Salome Gerber, of that community. For a period of four years residence in the native village was continued. The family came in 1881 to Cedar Rapids where an uncle, Martin Schirm, had preceded them. Two years later the family moved to Atkins, Ia., where eleven years. He saved an amount which enabled him, in 1892, to chase a farm in Harrison township, Boone County. The next twenty years, found him busy with improvements and additions to the homestead originally purchased. Retirement to Boone followed in 1917. Eleven Children To this union were born eleven children, two of whom have preceded the father in death. Besides his wife, he is survived by the children, Mrs. Salome Rinderknecht, Atkins, Ia.; Mrs. Julius Krumm of Stanhope; William Kreutner, Boone County; Fred Kreutner, Revillo, S.D.; Mrs. Jakob Kropenske, Newton, Ia.; Mrs. Louis Blaess, Boone County; Henry Kreutner, Story City; Walter Kreutner, Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Mrs. Edward Ahrens, Boone. Forty-six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one brother in Germany also survive. Martin Kreutner was one of the highly respected citizens of our county and a successful farmer in the Mackey vicinity. His cheerful disposition and pleasing personality made him a host of friends. He will be missed in the activities of Trinity Lutheran where he was a regular attendant, interesting himself in the welfare and growth of the organization as he had previously been busy in the establishment and extension of St. Paul's at Mackey. A major operation a year ago permitted him to enjoy fair health for some time until complications and paralysis terminated his life February 6, aged 77 years, 4 months, 16 days. The sympathy of friends, neighbors and fellow Christians is extended the bereaved family in their sorrow.
