In 1878 he came with other emigrants to America and settled the same year in Russell County. He was married to Magdalena Deines at Kratzka, Russia in 1848. She died in 1904. Eight children born to this union are living, and all reside in Russell County. They are George Boxberger, Mrs. Ana Krug, wife of J. J. Krug, John Jacob Boxberger, Lena Nuss, wife of Peter Nuss; Peter Boxberger, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Karst, wife of Adam Karst; George Jacob Boxberger. Two sons and two daughters died in the old country. In addition to these a large number of relatives including 65 grandchildren are left. Deceased was one of the pioneer farmers of Russell County and a good neighbor and citizen. He belonged to the Lutheran Church at Milberger, Iowa Synod. He passed away, Sunday, April 13, 1913, at the home of his son, Peter, after a ten days illness with asthma. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the house and church at Milberger. The sermon was preached by Rev. E. A. Biscuff, of Otis and he was assisted by Rev. Wm. Harder, of Russell. Internment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery at Milberger. The very large attendance at the funeral indicated the high esteem in which Mr. Boxberger was held. April 18, 1913 issue of The Russell Reformer Obituary - Peter Boxberger Peter Boxberger passed away Sunday after a short illness in which he was troubled with asthma and complications. He was one of the oldest of the German-Russians of the county and was quite well known and well thought of. He came in 1878, two years after the first colony came and has built up a comfortable fortune here by attending strictly to his own affairs and making the most of the opportunities which the country offered. The deceased was born October 3, 1827, in the province of Saratov, Russia. He was married to Miss Magdalena Deines and they have seven living children as follows: John George, Mrs. Anna Krug, John Jacob, Mrs. Magdelena Nuss, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Karst, Peter and George Jacob. All are residences of this county or live in Barton County just over the line. The funeral was held from the Iowa German Lutheran Church at Milberger and was conducted jointly by Rev. William Harder of this city and Rev. E. A. Bischoff of Otis. A very large congregation attended both at the house and the church to pay their last respects to one of the oldest and most respected citizens of that part of the county.
