His parents, who were pioneers of pure English descent, made their home in Michigan for many years; in 1852 they moved into Iowa; and in 1855 located on a farm near Arlington. Read More	Arlington News 7/20/1933 pg 1 Thursday Geo A Lickiss was born on a farm in Wayne Co, Michigan, Feb 20th 1850, the eldest son of John and Sarah (Hancock) Lickiss and passed to his reward at Mercy Hospital Oelwein, Iowa, Wednesday morning July 12th, 1933. His parents, who were pioneers of pure English descent, made their home in Michigan for many years; in 1852 they moved into Iowa; and in 1855 located on a farm near Arlington. Here Mr Lickiss spent his youth, and at the age of seventeen years entered the rural schools of the county, where he taught for many years; later he entered the mercantile business, working with the J O Hoover Co, then as a senior member of the firm of Lickiss & Lawrence, and for the last few years conducted his businss alone. On March 30th, 1872 he was united in marriage with Leona Ellis; to this union were born three children, Wayne of Gunnison, Colorado, Estelle (Hildreth) of Denver, Colorado and Lawrence who preceded his father in death by one year. For forty two years his house was kept in an dnear Arlington but on May 12, 1914, the wife and mother was taken by death. On December 1st, 1915, Mr Lickiss was married to Mrs Hattie Carnes of Cedar Rapids, who died Sept 5th 1927. On August 29th, 1928, the marriage of Mrs L James and Mr Lickiss took place and in this happy home thus established the deceased spent the remaining years of his life. He leaves to mourn his departure, his devoted wife, two children, Wayne Lickiss and Estelle (Lickiss) Hildreth, one grandson and one granddaughter, one brother and three sisters, besides his other relatives and innumerable friends and associates who will long miss his kindly presence and his wise counsel, always freely given and appreciated, the more now that this counselor has been taken to his external rest. HIs sufferings were patiently endured and even to the end his thoughts and his words were of others, consideration for his loved ones being deeper than any thought of himself. So he has passed from our midst but his memory enders. Services were held at the M E Church Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev Chamberlin, with music by Mr and Mrs Peters, accompanied by Mary Verna Gleim as pianist, with Wm Gordon, Geo Gordon, Geo Bate, E Richards, Wm Anderson and J M Welch serving as pallbearers. Interment at Taylorsville cemetery. Among those attending from out of town were Mr and Mrs W H Roberts and daughters from Marion, Iowa; Mr and Mrs John Graham and daughter, Cedar Rapids; Wayne Lickiss, Gunnison, Colorado; Mr Harry Wade and Mr and Mrs Roy Metcalf and daughter, Fayette. Card of Thanks We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors for the sympathy and acts of kindness during our late bereavement, also for those who furnished the beautiful flowers and the casket bearers.
