Description	:	Son of Peter Hughes and Annie C. Reynolds Hughes. Married Sarah Ellen Robinson on 12 Aug. 1881 Sarah was born 2 April 1855 in Rome, Lawrence County, Ohio. Her father was William G.Robinson born 1828 in Ohio. William's mother was named Rachael and was born in 1783 in Pennsylvania. Sarah died on 30 Jan 1901. Have not located her gravesite. George and Sarah came to Whiting around 1885 with their 2 children, Harry Clifford(born 14 Oct.1882 died 3 April 1971 in Omaha, Neb.)and Annie Matilda (my Grandmother) Born 7 June 1884 died 26 June 1979 in Waldron, Ark. They had 3 more children, Infant Mabel Claire who was born in 1890 and died 16 Mar 1891, Charles Farner born 20 Sept 1891 and died 12 Sept 1968 in Port Arthur Texas, and William Frederick born 23 July 1894 and died 4 March 1970 in Whiting,Iowa. George had rheumatoid arthritis and moved to Waldron, Scott County, Ark in 1914 for the better climate. He was an amazing artist, a woodcarver. They called him "Whittling Hughes". He made working musical instruments, canes, fruit bowls, all types of animals and birds and many other things. He carved a life size Uncle Sam to hold his mailbox. He was an amazing folk artist and my sisters, cousins and I have a few of his pieces. Some may be in a museum in Chicago, and sadly, many others are lost. He once made a cane for Henry Ford with a Model T on top. He received a thank you letter signed by him, but that also is probably gone. George lived his last days with his son Harry in Decatur, Burt Co. Neb where he died.
