Description	:	George A. Black, Jr., age 76 of Lamoni, Iowa, son of George A. and Cora Mae Black, was born June 27, 1924, in Shenandoah, Iowa, and died December 6, 2000, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. George was raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He served in the U. S. Army, enlisting at the age of 16. He was stationed at Camp Clairborne, Louisiana from August 3, 1940, until December 12, 1941. Because of chronic health problems, George received a medical discharge. George then moved to Red Oak, Iowa, where he met and married Ruth Quick Combs on April 25, 1954. Ruth had three children. She and George then moved to Lamoni, and they had two children. George worked for EW Kniep, Graceland College, and then went into business for himself until his health failed. He enjoyed going to the Outpost for coffee and visiting with friends and neighbors, cutting wood, working in the yard, and spending time with his family- children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lamoni. In July 2000, because of failing health, George entered Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. George was preceded in death by his father and mother; 8 half-brothers; 4 half-sisters; and one grandson, Alfred Pinegar. Survivors include his wife Ruth Black of Lamoni; children: Donna Tellier and husband Ron of Davis City, Iowa, Ken Combs and wife Pam of Lamoni, Gene Combs and wife Devy of Lamoni, Sandy White and husband Jim of LaCygne, Kansas, and Michael Black and wife Michele of Lamoni; grandchildren Ric Pinegar, Julie Waddell and husband Roy, Kyle Combs, Kelsey Combs, Carrie Dalrymple and husband Nathan, Aaron Hagen, Dylan Combs, Catelyn Combs, Christina White, Jamie White, Whitney White, Rusty White and wife Gayle, Kari Brown and husband Dan, Patty Pinegar, Priscilla Boswell and husband Jeff, Seth Black, Matt Black, and Alannah Black, great-grandchildren: Cameron Pinegar, Alta Pinegar, McKayla Pinegar, Jocelyn Pinegar, Bailey Hobbs, Taylor Waddell, Emma Dalrymple, Ethan Dalrymple, Samantha Enos, Josh Rogers, Ashley Rogers, Jessica White, Amanda White, Rayden Boswell and Alliey Boswell; brother Robert Black of Red Oak, sister-in-law Lois Quick of Wheatland, Missouri and her sons, Dennis, Randall, and James Quick and their families, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2000, at Decatur City Restoration Branch Church in Decatur City, Iowa with Elders Jon Barney and Bud Atwood officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Lamoni EMS or Lamoni Fire Department.
