Description	:	Platte - George Dykstra, 84, of Platte, S.D., passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Platte Health Center on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006. Funeral Services will be held Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Platte, S.D., with burial to follow at Grace Land Cemetery in Corsica, S.D. Military Rites will be performed. George was born on Feb. 26, 1921, to William and Hattie (Hoekman) Dykstra on a farm near Joubert, S.D. They lived there until he was 3 years old and then moved to a farm near Armour, S.D. George graduated from the eighth grade at Grandview Country School, Armour, S.D. The family then moved to a farm northeast of Corsica, S.D. George was in the Army during WWII. He served three years, three months and 11 days. On Feb. 4, 1946, he married Winnie DeBoer at Grace Reformed Parsonage in Corsica, S.D. They farmed by Corsica until 1974 when they moved to a farm near Platte. George retired from farming in 1982 and moved to a house in Platte. He continued doing farm work for Bruce Bakken for a few more years and then went to work as a grounds keeper for the Lake Platte Golf Club. He continued that for several years and in March of 2005 he moved into an apartment in Platte. George was a faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church in Platte. He is survived by two sons: Jerry and his wife, Alison, and Randy and his wife, Carmen, both of Platte, S.D.; three daughters: Donna Howard and her husband, Jerry, of Aberdeen, S.D., Vicki Berg and her husband, Rod, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mari Bosworth and her husband, Brian, of Cleveland, Miss.; one son-in-law, Gordon Feenstra and his wife, Betty, of Corsica, S.D.; 10 grandchildren: Jamie (Kim) Dykstra, Jeremy Dykstra, Joel Dykstra, Logan Dykstra, Chad (Cathy) Feenstra, Darwyn (Andrea) Sprik, Danielle Dykstra, Jaclyn Dykstra, Briana Bosworth, and Nicholas Bosworth; and three great-grandchildren: Morgan, Cole and Jenna. His loving wife, Winnie, went home to be with the Lord in May of 1991. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sylvia Feenstra; his parents, Bill and Hattie; and four brothers, Ernest, Wilfred, Marvin and Frederick in infancy.
