McMeekin George Alexander McMeekin, youngest son of George and Margaret McMeekin was born in County Down near Belfast, Ireland May 14, 1896 and departed from this life September 25, 1942 at the age of 46 years, 4 months and 12 days, following an illness of several months. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Chicago, where they resided a few months. From there they came to this community where Mr. McMeekin grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Mabel Harris, November 28, 1928 at Aurora, Nebraska. To them were born two children, Margaret, age 13, and Mary Lou, age 12, who with their mother survive. Mr. McMeekin is also survived by one brother, David, living on the farm near Rising City and one sister, Mrs. Jim Vance residing in Los Angeles. One brother, James, preceded him in death in 1935. George McMeekin was a Mason, being a member of Composite Lodge 81 at Rising City. He was united with the Methodist church and was a consistent member and supported of the church and its interests. Mr. McMeekin was well known and favorably known as a kind and affectionate and thoughtful husband and never-ending care of his home and family. In the lives of his children, his many friends and neighbors, there will be enshrined the memories of thos qualities which men respect and admire. Funeral services were held in the Rising City Methodist church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon following service at the home. Rev. H. B. Lansing conducted the services. A quartet, Mrs. and Mrs. Herbert Treadway, Mrs. John Bates and Mr. Morris Stephens sang three hymns, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" "Some Time We'll Understand," and "Going Down the Valley". Mrs. Stephens accompanied the quartet. Jim McMeekin, Frank McMeekin, George McMeekin, Robert McMeekin, Willis McMeekin and Wallace McMeekin, relatives of the deceased, acted as pallbearers. Burial was in the Circle Mound Cemetery. In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. John Massey, Norfolk; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Lakers, Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Colin Campbell, Omaha; Mrs. Rose Zollers, Kearney; Elmo Pock, Omaha; David McKeag, Stanton, Minn.; Nathaniel McKeag, Cannon Falls, Minn. Mrs. Jim Vance who had visited her brother during his illness returned from California and was present at the time of his death.
