Description	:	George D. Allan Jr., 88, of Wood River, Nebraska died May 31, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand Island with Rev. Steve Warriner and Rev. Scott Morris officiating. Burial will be in Cameron Cemetery near Wood River. Visitation hours will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. George D. Allan, Jr. was born July 22, 1926, at Wood River, Nebraska the son of George and Ina (Benton) Allan. He grew up in the Wood River area and received his education at District #14 and Wood River High School, graduating with the class of 1943. George was united in marriage to Dolores Greenwood, January 6, 1946 in Wood River, Nebraska. The couple made their home in the rural Wood River area where he was engaged in farming. He was also employed by the American Crystal Sugar Factory in Grand Island and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. George enjoyed skiing and camping, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. George will be remembered for the twinkle in his eyes and his mischievous smile. He was a member of the Berean Fundamental Church. He helped establish New Hope Christian School in Cairo, NE. and served as the schools Treasurer for 30 years. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dolores Allan of Wood River, five daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda & Bill Thurston of Kansas City, MO., Betty & Charles Raymond of Lincoln, NE., Karen & Douglas Codner of Wood River, Barbara & Dennis Huxtable of Wood River, NE., Beverly Diane & David Hahn of Grand Island, daughter-in-law and husband, Susan (Allan) & Kelvin Kleeb of Alda, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. George was preceded in death by his parents, son, George D. “Joe” Allan III in 1991, brothers & sister-in-law, Jim Allan, Bob & Helen Allan, sisters & brothers-in-law, Jean & Elton Dubbs, Jessie & Bob Casteel, Ethel & Martin Graham and Shirley Allan.
