Description	:	George was born to Mr. & Mrs. John & Mary (Hofer) Butler. on the family farm, near Greenbush, Kansas. He grew-up in St. Paul, Kansas, graduating from St. Francis High School, in 1937. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army, and was stationed in the Phillipines, New Guinea, and Japan, receiving the applicable campaign medals, and the good conduct medal, upon his discharge. George Alphonsus Butler & Betty Lou Carson — the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward Thomas Carson & Viola Mary (Johnson) Carson — married, on June 19, 1947, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, at Walnut, Kansas, where her parents owned the Carson Funeral Home. In 1953, George & Betty moved to Chanute, Kansas, where he was employed, by the Wyeth Hardware Company, of St. Joseph, Missouri, as a salesman, in the Chanute area, until his retirement, from that position. He then worked for Cleaver Farm & Home, in Chanute, until December 1, 2005, when he fully retired, due to health concerns. He was the No. 1 fan of: the Kansas City Chiefs; the KU Jayhawks; and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame University. He was, also, an enthusiastic supporter, of all local, and area, sports. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Chanute; a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1046, Chanute; a Past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O.E. (Elks) Lodge No. 806, Chanute; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), No. 1654, Chanute; a member of the American Legion, No. 170, Chanute; and was an active participant, in the 0.900 club. George was preceded in death, by his parents, and by all of his siblings: 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Survivors included; his wife, Betty, of the home; his son, George D. Butler, and wife, Yolanda, Camdenton, Missouri; his daughters – Linda (Frank) Springer, Chanute, and Patti Kiddoo, and her fiance, John Schultz, Chanute; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. The Rosary was recited, for him, at 7:00 P.M., on Thuirsday, October 5, 2006, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chanute, with his family receiving friends after the Rosary. His Funeral Mass was at 2:00 P.M., the next day, in the Church, followed by burial, in St. Patrick Cemetery, Walnut, with full military honors given by the Boerstler-May Post 170, of the American Legion, of Chanute. Memorials were suggested to: St. Patrick Catholic Church; the Chanute High School Booster Club; or American Legion Baseball.
