Description	:	George A., son of Selim Van Cortland and Margaret Cogswell, was born Jan. 2, 1854, at Lakeport, Michigan, and departed this life at his home in Pleasant Lake, Ind. June 16, 1922, aged 68 years, 5 months and 14 days. The deceased came to this county about 60 years ago and has been a countinuous resident ever since. Read More	George A., son of Selim Van Cortland and Margaret Cogswell, was born Jan. 2, 1854, at Lakeport, Michigan, and departed this life at his home in Pleasant Lake, Ind. June 16, 1922, aged 68 years, 5 months and 14 days. The deceased came to this county about 60 years ago and has been a countinuous resident ever since. About 30 years ago he moved with his family from near Salem to Pleasant Lake, where he has taken an active interest in the affairs of this village. Those things that would make the community better he has stood for, he has been a familiar figure at all of our special gatherings and in his work as a vetinary going in and out among the farmers he is remembered for his straight forward honest dealings with his fellow men and to say that he will be missed is putting it too mildly. Brother Cogswell united with the church of the United Brethren in Christ of Pleasant Lake, during the pastorate of Rev. McCloe and was a member at the time of his death. He was also for many years a member of the Masonic fraternity. On Jan. 27, 1876, he was united in marriage to Martha Ritter and to this union were born three children, Mrs. Earl Tuttle, of Angola, Mrs. Sol Tuttle, of Pleasant Lake and one who died in infancy. Besides the two children and wife he is survived by one brother, Lester Cogswell, Auburn, three sisters, Sabra Harpham of Pleasant Lake, Martha Pattison, of Wyandotte, Mich., Kate Klink, of DeQueene, Arkansas, and two grandchildren, Chester Tuttle and Bertha Jean Tuttle. The immediate cause of his death was a stroke of appoplexy and when it came he seemed to realize that his end had come. We shall miss Brother George from our village streets and from this community but in a better country we expect to meet him again. Funeral services held at the late home in Pleasant Lake and burial at Mt. Zion, Rev. F. B. Parker, officiating clergyman.
