George Byran McGinnis, son of George W. and Mary Elizabeth McGinnis, was born on a farm south of Laird on September 14. 1908. He spent his boyhood in this community and on October 16, 1930, was married to Lillie Oman at Wray. Two sons and two daughters were born to them. Mr. McGinnis early showed an inclination for mechanical work and this became his life work. At the beginning of World War II, he moved with his family to Greeley where he studied welding, then went to Fort Crook, Neb., and worked through the war at the Martin Aircraft plant. In 1946 the family returned here and he was a mechanic at local garages until about two years ago when he and Levolne Bowker opened the G & B repair shop. He later acquired the full ownership of the shop and the operation of his business was a source of great satisfaction to him. He died while at work from a heart attack on January 17, 1936, at the age of 47 years, four months and three days. Mr. McGinnis was devoted to his work, his family and a host of friends. He was a long-time member of the 1.0.0. F. lodge of Wray. Mr. McGinnis' parents preceded him in death. Surviving him are his wife, Lillie; two sons, Herbert Dean of Wray and George William, who is attending Colorado A & M college at Fort Collins; two daughters, Mrs. Janet Simmering of Yuma, and Phyllis, of the home; two brothers, Howard of Lexington, Neb., and Sam of Laird, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Fincher of Laird.
