Description	:	George Butler Justice was born 1880 in Rutherfordton, Rutherford County, NC the eldest of 6 known surviving children (4 boys/2 girls) born to the Rev. Thomas Butler Justice, Jr. and his (2nd) wife, Mary Hannah Logan. He was the paternal grandson of Rev. Thomas Butler Justice Sr. and Harriet Bailey; and gr-grandson of James Dyar Justice and Anthroit Thomas, all of Rutherford County. Thomas Butler Justice, Jr. and his (2nd) wife, Mary Hannah Logan. He was the paternal grandson of Rev. Thomas Butler Justice Sr. and Harriet Bailey; and gr-grandson of James Dyar Justice and Anthroit Thomas, all of Rutherford County. He was gr-gr-grandson of Thomas Edward Justice Sr. (1737-1803) and his wife Mary Dyer, who came to Rutherford County from Kingston, Plymouth County, MA ca 1787. Many of their descendants were Baptist ministers and land surveyors. George's father had married (1st) to Martha Wilkinson in 1867 and by her had one son, William Justice. After Martha died, he married George's mother in 1880 and they would have six children. George did not follow his father into the ministry, but took up the profession of printer. In about 1900 he moved to Charlotte, NC to pursue his trade and there on October 20, 1903 the 23-year old met and married 19-year old Ethel Ross of Rock Hill, SC. By 1909, however, they relocated to Raleigh. The couple would be parents of 4 known children: * George Butler Justice Jr. (1905-1974) * Richard Wilson Justice (1907-1981), Sacramento,CA * Mary Louise Justice (1910-1920) * Frank Ross Justice (1922-2000) While still in Mecklenburg County, George had been appointed Assistant Commissioner of Labor and Printing under Commissioner M.L. Shipman, a position he held for 12 years, which is what prompted the move to Raleigh. He then was connected with Commercial Printing in Raleigh until his death. George Butler Justice died in 1930 at age 50. His wife of 27 years survived him 43 years, passing in 1973 at about age 89.
