George C. married Angleine Beem on 6/20/1839 in Jackson Co., Ind. George C. was a son to John Y. and Elizabeth (Weddle) Gallion and he was born ca. 1814 problably in Hawkins Co., TN. John Y. Gallion was a veteran of the War of 1812 and was at the battle of Horseshoe Bend against the Creeks under the forces of Andrew Jackson. John and Elizabeth moved to Jackson Co., Ind. sometime shortly before 1830. REQUIRES MUCH RESEARCH John Y. Gallion was possibly a son to Thomas and Margret Yont/Yount Gallion. Thomas was born ca. 1775 in Surry or Wilkes Co., NC to Jacob and Eliz. Arnold Gallion. Jacob and Eliz. were married ca. 1853 in Harford Co., MD where Jacob was born ca. 1733 to Thomas and Mary Young Gallion. Thomas Gallion was born ca. 1707 to John and Mary Wright? Gallion also of Harford Co., MD. This John was born ca. 1670 to Joseph Gallion, the original Gallion immigrant to America. Joseph came to Maryland from London, England in 1664. Joseph was in turn born ca. 1633 to William and Joan Porter Gallion who themselves were married ca. 1615 in Chigwell, Essex. William Gallion was born in London ca. 1592 to unknown parents. The Gallion name goes back in London records to the 1340s and in English county records to as far back as 1160. The Gallion name is considered in England to be of French origin with the original French spelling being Gallienne. Today there are about a thousand Gallienne families in France concentrated in Normandy, the Ile de France, and Lyon.-- George T.
