Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M until service time. George was born on August 12, 1915 to Henry and Frieda (Stoeter) Hoffner on the now Hoffner Century Farm in rural Clarence. He graduated from Clarence High School in 1933 and continued on to graduate in Latin/Business from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1937 where he was a member of the Chi Beta Phi fraternity. George married Neva (Foxie) D. Fox of Urbana, Iowa in 1939 in Iowa City. She died in 2006. George served in the Army Air Corp and the regular Army for nearly 11 years, having been stationed stateside in Missouri, Texas, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. He also served in the Aleutian Island during WWII and in Pirmasens, Germany following the war. In 1953, George returned with his family to Clarence and farmed until his retirement in 1989. For 25 years, George and Foxie spent half the year farming and half in south Texas camping and fishing, an arrangement they both enjoyed. In 2006, George moved into an apartment in Clarence where he resided until just recently. George is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Clarence) Parker of Richardson, Tx ; Carol Cherryholmes of North Liberty,Ia; four grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren; a half sister, Dorothy Heinke of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one grandson; brothers, John, Alfred, Edward, Charles, Henry Jr., and Neil; sisters, Marie Luetjohann and Sopha Hoffner; and half-siblings, Geraldine, August and Donald.
