George Darling was born October 6, 1878 in Rock County, Minnesota, the son of Eugne and Jennie Darling. On June 21, 1905 he was united in marriage to Dora Kempf. To this union two daughters were born. Mrs. Berniece Claymore of Sturgis and Mrs. Gladys Boehrs of Eagle Butte. The family homesteaded south of Eagle Butte in 1916 and in 1922 they moved to town where George was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1940 Mrs. Darling passed away and Mr. Darling continued working for the railroad until 1952 when he retired from active work. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and the two hobbies took up much of his time. He and his faithful dog, "Billy" were seen down town quite often and on pleasant days, George and his longtime friends found watching the activity of mainstreet an interesting past time. He enjoyed reasonably good health until a short time ago. His short illness that resulted in his death, was a shock to many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and four sisters. Survivors are his daughters, Berniece Claymore of Sturgis and Gladys Boehrs of Eagle Butte; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one niece and give nephews. Active pallbearers were James and W. I. Huddlestone and Daniel Booth of Ridgeview, Frank Peterson of La Plant, Clarence Boehrs, Cliff Ralston and Richard Hunter all of Eagle Butte. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Boehrs, Charlie Holloway, Hans Joens, Sr., Fred Peterson, Joe Zorc, Sr., Joe Buresh, Charlie Hamilton, Emmanuel Hinzman, Frank Heckel, Vance Vaughan, James Davidson, Sr., George Matz and Gabe Zacher. The J. D. Kesling Funeral Home of Timber Lake was in charge of arrangements. Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. John Claymore of Sturgis, their daughter, Mrs. John Symonds and her husband Bill, Wyo., their son, Elra of Piedmont, South Dakota; Lu Ann Boehrs of Rapid City; Tony Kempf of Sturgis and his daughter, Mrs. (Maxine) Wally Melcher of Salem, South Dakota; Mrs. Art Exe of Rapid City; Mrs. Grace Kinney and family and Mrs. Hubert McDaniel, both from Sturgis, South Dakota
