Description	:	George Curtis Manning, 90, formerly of 306 S. Ward St., died at 1 am Feb. 13, 2011, at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Lancaster, Mo., to Nosh C. and Mary Jane Bodkins Manning. He married Vivian J. Stites on July 12, 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. Surviving are his wife, Vivian; two sons, Melvin LeRoy(Sherry)Manning of Kennwick, Wash., and Max(Beverly)Manning of Ottumwa; a daughter, Martha Acord of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-great-grandson; a brother, John J.(Marie)Manning of Moline, Ill., and a sister, Marie(Gerald)Phillips of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Richard Acord. Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post 775 Veterans of Foreign War and O.B.Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 10 am Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5-7 pm Wednesday. The family asks that everyone dress casual. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist Church, Ottumwa.
