Description	:	Funeral services for George Doudand Hunter of Sharpsburg were held March 21 at Bender Funeral Home in Lenox with Rev James Sheckler officiating. Mr Hunter died, after an illness of two weeks, at the Armstrong Rest Home in Bedford March 17, 1965, at the age of 88 years, nine months and 24 days. Interment was at Old Memory Cemetery, New Market, Ia. George Doudand Hunter, one of five children, and the eldest of four sons of Giles and Marguerite Virginia (Jennie) Hunter, was born May 21, 1876 near Shenandoah, Iowa. Most of his early life was spent in and around Shenandoah and New Market, Iowa. "Doud" sometimes known by "Dee" to his friends, spent the greater part of his life farming. He had lived alone in Sharpsburg, Iowa, the last 13 years, after the death of his wife. On May 26, 1897, he was united in marriage to Emma Catherine Long of New Market, Iowa, who was deceased July 12, 1952. To this union six children were born, namely: Helen, Mrs J.S. Andrews; Pearl, Mrs Waldo Burns; Daisy, Mrs Merle Moore; Doud jr., Dale and Max. Surivivors include his six children; their husbands and wives; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, John, Ralph and Blaine; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Emma, his parents, a sister Belle Glassgow, and one grandson Kenneth Moore. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Doud was loved by all and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
