Born in Griffith to George E. and Mary F. Buzzard Barnett, he married Catherine "Mick" Kirkpatrick Nov. 22, 1953 in Rochester. She survives. Mr. Barnett, a Rochester resident most of his life, was a farmer and owner and operator of Barnett's Backhoe Service, retiring in 1983. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Armed Forces, F Company 38th Infantry Regimen, a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, National Defense Service Medal and two Purple Hearts. He was a prisoner of war of the Korean War for 28 months. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving with his wife, at home, are three daughters, Teresa Hammel and husband Jon and Sheila Banush and husband Rick, all of Rochester, Tamara Harrah and husband Max, Indianapolis; two sons, Mike and wife Rhonda, Rochester, and Pat, of Rochester; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Reba Honkomp and Francis Norris, both of Macy, Alice Dommer, Portage; one brother, Robert, South Bend; several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents, one brother, Tom, and one granddaughter. Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. Jill Walley officiating. Burial is at Rochester IOOF Cemetery, where the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to Fulton County Hope Hospice or Burton United Methodist Church, Rochester.
