Description	:	George E. Steingass Jr., 65, Route 7, Defiance, died at 8:17 a.m. today, April 4, 1989 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born May 20, 1923, the son of George and Nora (Hornish) Steingass. In 1948, he married Marjorie Weber, who survives. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II, having served with the 9th Air Force. He completed 65 missions with the European Theater occupation and received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross, among other medals. Steingass Jr., 65, Route 7, Defiance, died at 8:17 a.m. today, April 4, 1989 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born May 20, 1923, the son of George and Nora (Hornish) Steingass. In 1948, he married Marjorie Weber, who survives. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II, having served with the 9th Air Force. He completed 65 missions with the European Theater occupation and received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross, among other medals. He was a carpenter and roofing contractor with George Steingass and Sons Roofing Contractors, and a member of St. John Catholic Church, VFW Post 3360 and Jewell American Legion. Also surviving are his mother, of Jewell; two sons, Alan and Richard, both of Defiance; five daughters, Connie and Anne-Marie Steingass, Carolyn Heilman and Shirley Plummer, all of Defiance, and Linda Layne, Del City, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth , Paul, James and Ron, all of Defiance; and six sisters, Loa Zachrich of Coldwater, Mich., Beulah Mansfield of Swanton, Mary Lou Demland of Holgate, Phyllis McBride of Indiana, Pa., Martha Wealleans of Wauseon and Jane Brubaker, Jewell. Preceding him in death were his father and a brother, Larry. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by the VFW.
