Description	:	George Edgar Foust died October 12, 2003, in Eureka, just short of living 92 healthy years. He passed away just five hours after a routine visit by his son, Charles and wife Marian Foust. He was born in Gum Springs*, Missouri, on December 8, 1911, to George Henry and Suzanne Summers Foust. Read More	George Edgar Foust died October 12, 2003, in Eureka, just short of living 92 healthy years. He passed away just five hours after a routine visit by his son, Charles and wife Marian Foust. He was born in Gum Springs, Missouri, on December 8, 1911, to George Henry and Suzanne Summers Foust. They raised seven children, Rudolph, Roy, Mary Wanita, May (of which are deceased), and Harry who currently lives in Tucson, Arizona, with his wife, Ester. He and his father moved to Arcata in the early 40’s, following his sister, May, who lived on a dairy ranch with her husband, Ted Landcaster. It was at a local dance that George became smitten for his wife to be, Velma Marie Pitts (died April 8, 1996) from Blue Lake. She was an employee of the California Barrel Factory. When George married her in 1945, he thought she would choose to keep working, but after the marriage she quit the company and started working on raising a family. They raised two boys, Charles Edgar and Glenn Arthur, who still reside in the area. Their father worked at the CA Barrell Factory until it closed in 1956 and stayed employed at numerous mills, finally retiring from the Simpson Timber Company. He enjoyed living on the north coast especially for the sports fishing. Having spent many days out fishing salmon and trapping local crab with his friends and family. During his retirement he became an avid bowler playing on the Harbor Lanes Senior League. The last two years were spent in the fine care of the Granada Care Home in Eureka, where he participated in their senior activities, occasionally dancing with their kind staff. George is survived by many friends and family including his grandson, David Foust and his wife Krista, and their twin boys, Jorod and Gregory, and daughters, Alyssa and Carolyn. Pastor David Groe will officiate the burial service at Greenwood Cemetery on Friday, October 17, 2003, at 1 pm. Open casket viewing will be Wednesday, October 15, 2003, from 9am to 5pm, and on Thursday evening, October 16, 2003, from 7pm to 8:30pm, at Paul’s Chapel, 1070 “H” Street, Arcata. Published in Eureka Times-Standard on Oct. 15, 2003 _________________________________________ Gum Springs is the name of an old Cumberland Presbyterian Camp-Ground four miles southwest of Stockton. It was named for a family of Gums, local landowners. (--Place Names). It was located at Section 31, Township 34, Range 26, in Linn Township. Gum Springs had at one time a small store, but no settlement. As of 1974, the near by school house has been abandoned for several years; the church building is being used for a Union Sunday School.There is a well kept cemetery next to the church. (--Mrs. A. D.
