Description	:	George Edward Cone, Jr., of Estill, passed away peacefully, at the age of 93, August 9, 2012, after a long illness. Mr. Cone was a graduate of Brunson High School and attended Clemson University until enlisting in the service when World War II began. He served in the Army under General George Patton during World War II after being activated from Company D of the National Guard in Hampton County. Read More	George Edward Cone, Jr., of Estill, passed away peacefully, at the age of 93, August 9, 2012, after a long illness. Mr. Cone was a graduate of Brunson High School and attended Clemson University until enlisting in the service when World War II began. He served in the Army under General George Patton during World War II after being activated from Company D of the National Guard in Hampton County. He served throughout the European theater in Britton, Africa, Italy and Sicily. He began as a private but ended his career as a 1st Lieutenant and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Estill, SC American Legion Post #13 for many years and was extremely proud of his service to his country. After coming home from the war, Mr. Cone spent the rest of his life in Estill, farming, which he loved dearly. He retired in 1982 and his son, George Edward Cone, III, continued his farming operation. He was an active member of Lawtonville Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon. He loved his house in Bluffton, SC and was an avid fisherman. Many people called on him to work on their boats or tell them where the latest good fishing drop was. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 plus years, Mary Frances Cone, of Estill. Mr. and Mrs. Cone were inseparable and enjoyed travelling and fishing and crabbing in the May River. He is also survived by his son, George Edward Cone, III and wife Chris and his daughter, Frances Esther Sexson and husband Bob. He leaves behind five grandchildren who called him "Pappy": Scott Edward Sexson and wife Beth, Mary Esther Hartley and husband Dustin, Heather Jane Cone, Mary Christine Cone Grant and husband Rich, and Dorothy Ann Cone Guscio and husband Will. Also he leaves six great-grandchildren: Edward Andrew Grant, Hayden Dustin Hartley, Meredith Catherine Hartley, John Edward Schwedler, Campbell Elizabeth Guscio and Beau Edward Sexson. He also leaves behind one brother, Thomas William Cone of Hampton, SC. Services will be held graveside at Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill, SC on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM, with visitation immediately following the service.
