Mr. Simmons was born in Union, SC on April 6, 1944 a son of the late George Edward Simmons, Sr. and Daisy O'Shields Simmons Maness. Read More	George Edward "Eddie" Simmons, Jr. Union, SC Mr. George Edward "Eddie" Simmons, Jr., age 69, husband of Betty Jo Johnson Simmons, of 142 Fairforest Heights, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mr. Simmons was born in Union, SC on April 6, 1944 a son of the late George Edward Simmons, Sr. and Daisy O'Shields Simmons Maness. He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant. Mr. Simmons was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. He played on the first Dixie Youth District 2 Championship Baseball team, as well as numerous baseball and softball teams throughout his life. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Dawn S. Fallaw and husband John of Union; a brother, Tommy Simmons and wife Suzette of Prosperity; two grandsons, John Simmons Fallaw and Grayson Edward Fallaw. Mr. Simmons was predeceased by his step-father Loyd Maness. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, September 9, 2013, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will follow at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Danny Marvin, Ricky Black, Jimmy Massey, Bucky Butler, Gerald Alman, and David Ridings. Honorary pallbearers will be George Bates, Harold Babb, Maxey Lawson, Phillip Ward, Wayne Grady, Ronald Garner, Charlie Caldwell, Larry Caldwell, Stanley Wells, Billy Beheler, J.R. Putman, Robert Sumner and anyone that played ball with Mr. Simmons. The staff and nurses of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home are asked to sit in a group. Visitation will be 6:00 until 7:30 Wednesday evening at the S.R Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, P.O. Box 462, Buffalo, SC 29321 or Grace United Methodist Church, 201 S. Church Street, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and John Fallaw, 315 W. South St., Union, SC 29379.
