Description	:	George E. Hammond passed away at his home in the west part of town at 11:55 Tuesday night. Mr. Hammond fell on his porch a week ago and has been bedfast since then. Mr. Hammond was born on April 23, 1857, being 87 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Hamilton in 1916 and has been a resident here since that time. THE HAMILTON NEWS Friday, October 6, 1944, p. 1, col. 5. ______________________________________________ George Edward Hammond, the son of James Alexander and Elnora McCurdy Hammond, was born in DeKalb county, Indiana, on April 23, 1857 and departed from this life on October 3, 1944. He was the last member of a family of eight children and attained the age of 87 years 5 months and 10 days. On November 10, 1877, Mr. Hammond was united in marriage to Sarah Caroline Dirrim and tho this union four children were born: Timothy Andrew now living in Fort Wayne; Roy Edgar of Ashley; Mildred Christiana Leason of Hamilton and Lillie Pearl Overholt of Waterloo. Besides the children there are thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grand children and many other relatives and close friends who will cherish his memory and mourn his departure. Mr. Hammond became a member of the Hamilton Christian church under the ministry of Fred Thomas about twenty-eight years ago and was very faithful in his interest in the church until the time of his death and attended faithfully as long as he was physically able to do so. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Christian church with A. P. A. Benjamin officiating and burial was made in Hamilton cemetery.
