His father was a miller and the family removed to Minnesota in 1856 so that Mr Favre is one of the early pioneers of the state. When the war broke out he promptly enlisted in the 2nd Minnesota Battery and served with the regiment during its service. This battery was under the command of Captain Hotchkiss and rendered valuable aid in several battles of the western campaign. They fought in the Battle of Perryville and were with Rosecrans at Stone River. At this bloody battle, the battery was complimented by the superior officers for its gallant work. At the great battle of Chickamauga the battery served and in the campaign of Sherman around Atlanta it took an active part. Particularly at the Battle of Dalton. The battery did not go to the sea with Sherman but was among those sent with Thomas to overtake Hood who was hurrying north to threaten Union territory in the hopes of drawing off Sherman. It took part in the battle of Nashville. After the regiment was discharged Favre came to Todd County and is now a resident of this village.
