Description	:	George E. Britton, 68, 1823 Avenue H, died at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, January 19, at Fort Madison Community Hospital. He had been seriously ill two days. Mr. Britton was born March 23, 1923 in Fort Madison. He retired as an employee of the Santa Fe Railway after 42 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Eagles Lodge and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. A Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been seriously ill two days. Mr. Britton was born March 23, 1923 in Fort Madison. He retired as an employee of the Santa Fe Railway after 42 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Eagles Lodge and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. A Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. On June 25, 1949, in Fort Madison, he married Viola M. Buechel, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Linda Serangeli, West Des Moines, Susan Steer, Burlington, Becky Carvajal, Donnellson, and Georgia Brecount, Fort Madison; two brothers, Dick of Fort Madison and John of Davenport; two sisters, Irene Griswold and Mildred DeLong, both of Fort Madison; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, nephews and nieces. His parents were George and Margaret Hueser Britton. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Robert Amborn officiated. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The body was at King-Lynk Funeral Home where friends called and the family met with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. A memorial was established.
