They were married at the home of Mrs Day's parents, Mr and Mrs W. N. Snooks, at Newton, IA, December 21, 1887. Mr Day was a young farmer, tilling the soil of Jasper County. In the spring of 1888, they moved to Cherokee County, first settling on the farm seven miles southwest of Marcus, known as the Jake Fike farm. The following spring; they moved to the H. C. Wilson farm one mile farther west in Plymouth County where they lived three years. In 1891, they moved to the J. L. Cobb farm, three miles farther west on Whiskey river...... Obituary, Quimby, IA: Special funeral services were held here for George Ellsworth Day, 86, resident of Quimby for 27 years and Cherokee County for 42 years, who died at his home January 1. Mr Day was born at Steubenville, OH, the son of Mr and Mrs William Day, in 1860. He came with his parents in a covered wagon to Jasper Co, IA, in 1861 (actual date was 1866-67). His parents operated a farm near Kellogg, and moved two years later, to Newton, IA. Receiving little formal education, Mr Day began to earn his own living at the age of seven. He worked as a chore boy in a grocery store and, when he was 14, he and a friend bought a team and wagon and started a delivery service. He later worked in a coal mine near Newton.
