George Elmer Boice. George Elmer, son of James and Alice Boice, was born in West Prairie, Linn county, Iowa, Dec. 4th, 1862. He was married to Edith Markley, June 25, 1886. They lived at Marion a year and a half, then moved to Savanna, Ill., where they resided three years, and from there to Perry, living there six years when they returned to Marion on a visit. In 1896 he entered the employ of the C.M. & St. P. R'y as fireman and became engineer last August. For the last two years his health had been precarious but the last twelve months indicated that his constitution was permanently broken, and last November he was compelled to give up his work and for nine weeks was confined to his bed, but temporarily rallied so that for three weeks he was able to be about the house. He was only in bed two and one half days prior to his decease. He died at 11:45 p.m., March 25th. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Boice, one dying in infancy, while one son, Ernest, survives his father. During the last days of his illness he unreservedly gave himself to Jesus Christ. In this position he was cheerful and happy and in his relations of son, husband and father was loving and kind. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, son, Ernest, father, mother, three sisters, Mrs. Martha Ellen Jordan of Urbana, Mrs. Florence Janette Hobson of Clinton, Mrs. Ida Irene Roy of Macum, Mo., and two brothers, Joseph of Ipswich, S.D., and Claude Ernest of Savannah, Ill. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. N. Pye, and the services at the grave were conducted by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
