Description	:	George Emmet Baney was born to Charles William (Jack) Baney and Julia Cecilia Hull Baney on June 3, 1928 in a house east of Gregory by the old water tower. They later moved north of Gregory when he was six years old. He attended the Scott School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Gregory High School. Farming, running bundle racks, and horses was his life. He spent time at Grandpa Hull's and lots of time at Uncle Allen and Aunt Dell's learning to drive a car, tractors, and ride horses. Read More	George Emmet Baney was born to Charles William (Jack) Baney and Julia Cecilia Hull Baney on June 3, 1928 in a house east of Gregory by the old water tower. They later moved north of Gregory when he was six years old. He attended the Scott School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Gregory High School. Farming, running bundle racks, and horses was his life. He spent time at Grandpa Hull's and lots of time at Uncle Allen and Aunt Dell's learning to drive a car, tractors, and ride horses. George entered the service on October 20, 1951 and was a member of the 179th AAA Battalion. He was a wireman and worked at a radar station. He married Lois Lorraine Swift on May 22, 1952 at Ft. McNair in Washington, D.C. by Chaplain Paul E. Winslow. George received his honorable discharge on March 12, 1953. Part of their family was a pet kitten Champ. After their farm was sold they worked for many people that became friends that were like family. They were blessed with daughters Lorraine Kay Baney Serr, Lori Ann Baney, and Lisa Rae Baney Scott. They became foster parents and have been doing that for many years. It was hard as many children came and went. They were also blessed with four adopted children, Michelle Rose Baney Wiedeman, Ira Lee Baney, Kaci Rae Baney, and Margo Lynn Baney. George died on February 10, 2014 at Avera Gregory Hospital at the age of 85 years. George was preceded in death by his parents Charles William (Jack) and Julia Cecilia (Hull) Baney, grandparents George W. and Ada Baney, Emmet and Matilda (Delaney) Hull, his sister Blanche and brother-in-law Charles Smith, his brother Frank and sister-in-law Florence Baney, father-in-law and mother-in-law Oral and Aletha Swift, and his granddaughter Andrea Lorraine Serr. Remaining is his wife of 61 years Lois; his children Lorraine and husband Bob Serr of Dallas, SD, Lori of Topeka, KS, Lisa and husband Frank Scott of Wingdale, NY, Michelle and husband Seth Wiedeman of Burke, SD, Ira of Sioux Falls, SD, Kaci of Sioux Falls, SD, and Margo of Winner, SD; and four grandchildren Caitlin Serr, Corey Scott, Clayton Kerner, and Andrew Wiedeman.
