Read More	GEORGE ERWIN MOORE DIED CHRISTMAS DAY Worn and weary from age and disease, George Erwin Moore, Confederate veteran and highly regarded citizen, died Christmas Day in the city at the home of his son, George E. Moore, Jr. Mr. Moore had been in failing health for several months. However, he had been up and about on the day of his death. Shortly before mid-day he complained of feeling weak and retired to his bedroom. Within an hour he quietly passed to the beyond. Thursday afternoon at three o'clock funeral services were held at the Second Baptist church, conducted by two former pastors, the Rev. Jodie A. Martin and the Rev. W.D. Hammett. The service was concluded at the graveside at the family burial plot in the Laurens Cemetery. Mr. Moore was a native of Laurens County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Moore,and was 82 years of age, having been born March 28, 1847. As a youth, he enlisted for service with the State Guards during the last year of the Confederacy. After the war, he returned home and engaged in farming. He married Miss Alice T. Murff of the old Brewerton section. Mrs. Moore died about five years ago. The family moved from the farm to this city more than 30 years ago and lived quietly at their cottage home in the eastern part of town. Mr. Moore was a charter member of Second Baptist Church, and for many years was an active member and chairman of the board of deacons. After failing health he was made an honorary member of the deacon board. He was a good neighbor, loyal friend and esteemed citizen. The surviving sons and daughters are: W.A. Moore, Charles Moore, W.Ben Moore, and George E. Moore, of Laurens, and John M. Moore of Spartanburg; Mrs. John F. Compton, Mrs. E.A. McDowell and Mrs. David C. Bolt, all of Laurens. He is also survived by one brother, J.B. Moore of Ware Shoals, and two sisters, Mrs. David Reeves of Honea Path and Mrs. Whit Martin of Greenville.
