Description	:	George E. Moore, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church, 210 E. Platt St., Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, January 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, in Bellevue, Iowa. Moore, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church, 210 E. Platt St., Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, January 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, in Bellevue, Iowa. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is in charge of the arrangements. George Moore was born on April 28, 1924, in Harrisburg, SD, to Clarence and Eunice (Phelps) Moore, the third of nine children. He was raised in northwest Iowa and graduated from Titonka High School in 1942. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army 11th Armored Division in World War II. George married Lois Hueneke of Bellevue, Iowa, on September 2, 1952, at Wartburg Seminary Chapel in Dubuque. He worked for the Jackson Breeders Association for 13 years and as a rural letter carrier in Maquoketa for 25 years. During his time as a letter carrier, he was an active member of the Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Association and served as its treasurer. He was a member of the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75 and Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether, where he had served as past commander. George was also a member of First Lutheran Church serving on the council and as superintendent of the Sunday School. In his retirement, he volunteered at the Maquoketa Community Cupboard and for Meals on Wheels. For many years, George was an active Boy Scout leader and a 4-H leader. He also enjoyed piloting his plane, golfing, gardening, and square dancing. George is remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. This past year, George and Lois celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Maquoketa with all of their children and grandchildren present. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his children David (Christine) of Janesville, WI, Alan (Judy Fletcher) of Havertown, PA, and Phillip (Jane Anderson) also of Janesville, WI. Survivors also include eight grandchildren, Caroline, Catherine, Madeleine, Peter, Andrew, Alexander, Henry, and Charlie; a sister, Anna Mae Bristow of Livermore, IA, and a brother, Rollo Moore of Algona, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Levant, Stanley, Clair, Roger, Lois, and Dale. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund, Maquoketa Community Cupboard, Camp Courageous, or the charity of the donor's choice.
