GEORGE BAKER'S FUNERAL SUNDAY, Rites Will Be Conducted in Church at Decorah. Decorah Ia. Funeral services for George Frank Baker, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Congregational church. Rev. Ralph B. Noyce will officiate and burial will be in the Phelps cemetery. Mr. Baker died Wednesday night at Decorah hospital after four days' illness of pneumonia. Born Oct. 11, 1868, at Conover, Ia, Mr. Baker has been a resident of Winneshiek county thruout his life. The family home was established in Decorah soon after his birth, His father was James H Baker, a pioneer grain buyer. BUYS LUMBER BUSINESS. At the age of 15, Mr. Baker left school and entered the employ of a local lumber yard. Later he was a partner of E.J.Riley in the lumber business, which he subsequently acquired. At the time of his death his son was his partner. Mr. Baker was married in 1891 at Waterloo to Miss Leila A. Adams, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Adams, former residents of Decorah. Mrs.Adams died May 17, 1930. On Nov. 1, 1936 Mr. Baker was married to Miss Helen Rathaus, daughter of Mrs. ward Bacheldor of Castalia who survives. Mr. Baker is also survived by his son, Mayor George A. Baker, his granddaughter Barbara, and his brothers, Herbert Baker, Chicago, and J.H.Baker, Osage. ACTIVE IN CIVIC AFFAIRS. Mr. Baker's activities extended to all the important affairs of Decorah. He was a member of the Commercial club and one of its early presidents; president of the Winneshiek County agricultural society; ahead served on the city council, and was president of the Decorah Building and Loan association at the time of his death. In conjunction with the late I. Leytzr he promoted the Oneot golf and country club and served as its president for several years. Contributor: Jean Wilson (48841367) •
