George was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Millinocket, the son of Frank and Florence Hodgkins Worcester. George was one of nine children. George attended school in Millinocket and then entered the work force early on in life. He then served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees in California and Guam and was a veteran of World War II. After returning to Lincoln, he married his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Jordan Worcester. He then began working at Worcester Bros., a family business right here in town as an oil burner technician, a job he held for about 50 years. George was a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, Congregational Church and Congo Men’s Club. He also co-hosted the annual Jordan reunion at their Little Narrows Lake home for 52 years. Some of his favorite pastimes were traveling to South Carolina, reading, gardening, cutting wood around the homestead, quiet times at their home on the lake and family gatherings. He was a strong yet gentle man who "loved big." His most special contribution in the last 20-plus years to the community was the magic that he shared as Santa’s helper. His jolly self and twinkle in his eye brought joy to young and old alike for many years. Chances are we could wallpaper a whole house with photos of Santa and all his believers. What started as a fun dress up more than 20 years ago grew to a family and community tradition that will not be forgotten. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus – and we had the privilege of knowing and loving him! He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; and their six children, Jane and Charlie Russell of Kenai, Alaska, David Worcester and Karen Loupin of Lincoln, Cathy and David Moison of Glenmoore, Pa., Jeff and Kristi Worcester of Bangor, Ann and Danny Lyles of Waukegan, Ill., and Julie and Steve Zagorianakos of Lincoln. George was the proud Grampie to Shane, Shandy, Derek, Eileen, Nathan, Patrick, Angela, Danielle, Andrew and Amy. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Lillian, Katarena, Adam, Tenison, Cameron, Audrey and Emma. George also leaves behind an extensive family tree of Worcesters and Jordans that he loved dearly. George was predeceased by all of his siblings, Don Worcester, Eleanor Grantham, Fred Worcester, William Worcester, Florence Devoe, Margaret Haynes, Pearl Hunter and Gladys Rafford. Our family would like to take this time to thank George’s extended family and friends for the opportunity for him to live, work, raise a family and be an active community member during his lifetime. Many thanks to all of you who have enriched his life, made long lasting memories with him, and stood by him through the years. We also extend a special thanks to his recent caregivers at home and Colonial Healthcare who made his final months as comfortable as could be. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Clay Funeral Home, Lincoln, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, with Pastor Michael Robinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s memory to First Congregational Church, Lincoln.
