At that time he was a carpenter. He was married to Melvena Clark Barnes, and he had three children: Rosa, Gertrude, and Raymond. Melvena died in 1901. George moved to the state of Washington after the death of his wife and was a widower in the 1910 Census in Mason Co, WA. At some point after 1910 he married Ella. VT, House carpenter ------------------------------ The Mason County Journal, Friday May 5, 1916, p.5 – DEATHS OF THE WEEK "The death of George F. Barnes, which has been expected for several weeks, occurred at the home last Friday morning, he sinking to rest after two months of effort to throw off the spell of pneumonia, aided by the best of care and medical attention. The funeral took place from the Methodist church Saturday forenoon, being attended by the Masonic brethren and members of the Grand Army and Relief Corps. Services were conducted by Revs. H. P. Cochran and S. Williams, the former being a member of the family, serving by special request. A special choir sang several favorite songs, and the interment was made in the Masonic cemetery under the Masonic ritual service. Geo. F. Barnes was born in St. Albans, Vermont, November 5, 1846. When a child his parents moved to Delaware County, Iowa. He enlisted in the 4th Iowa Cavalry at the age of 17 and served 3 years, being discharged on account of sickness. On April 30, 1871, he was married to Melvina Clark and one year later moved to Ida Grove, Iowa. To this union were born five children, three of whom are now living: Ray F. Barnes of Butte; Mrs. Gertie Magee of Seibert, Colorado, and Mrs. C. E. Barnard of Seattle. After the death of his wife 15 years ago Mr. Barnes came to Washington to live with his daughters and two years ago was married to Mrs. Ella Pannenberg, in Shelton. Mr. Barnes was one of the charter members of Kane lodge No. 377, Ida Grove, Iowa, and at the time of his death a member of Mr. Moriah Lodge of Masons. The deceased made many friends during his stay in Shelton, all of whom will deeply sympathize with the bereaved widow, and the daughter, Mrs. Barnard, who spent much of her time in Shelton." -------------------------------------------------- CARD OF THANKS "We desire to express our most grateful appreciation of all the sympathy and kindness during the prolonged illness of Mr. G.
