Funeral to be Held Wednesday" George Franklin Lang, pioneer resident of this city and county, for years a hotel keeper here, one time assessor and member of the city council, prominent in the fire department and in many fraternal orders, and a man universally liked and respected, died at 8:20 this morning at his home, 308 E. Fourth street, death being the result of rectal cancer, from which he had suffered for a number of years and which grew serious the first of January this year. He had suffered intense pain the last two weeks and death came as a relief. He was 63 years old, having been born on the 27th of April, 1859. Born In Illinois, Mr. Lang was born in Stevenson county, Ill., and was the youngest of seventeen children, the most of whom preceded him in death. His parents were Ernest and Jacobina (Metz) Lang. He came to Franklin township, this county, when seventeen years of age and shortly after that embarked in the hotel business here. On Christmas day, 1886 he was married to Miss Anna Henneshiedt, who survives him. He conducted first the old Commercial Hotel and later the Atlantic Hotel, until the latter was sold to Dr. Jones. Mr. Lang was for years prominent in the Atlantic fire department, having held various offices therein, and was connected with the department in the days its running teams were bringing home championships when tournaments were the popular thing. He was a member of the Elks, the M.W.A. and I.O.O.F. organizations. Of the seventeen brothers and sisters, six survive Mr. Lang. They are Charles Lang of Cumberland; Mrs. Mary Kreamer of this city; Mrs. Kate Weber of Ackley, Ia.; Mrs. Caroline Epley of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Mrs. Julia Miller, of Davis, Ill.; and John Lang of Davis, Ill. A sad co-incidence in the death of Mr. Lang is the fact that today at Omaha was held the funeral service for the late Mrs. Lydia Webber, sister of Mr. Lang, who died there a few days ago. Mrs. Epley, the sister from Colorado, has been at her brother's bedside for two weeks. Mr. Lang is survived by four children. The children are Earl J. Lang of this city; Mrs. Pearl Getz, wife of Dr. L. M. Getz of this city; John F. and Miss Grace Lang, also of this city. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the Presbyterian church and interment will be made in the Atlantic cemetery. The Rev. J. K. Driver, former pastor here, will officiate. The local Lodge of Elks will have charge at the grave and it is expected that the Atlantic Fire Department will attend in a body, as well as other organizations to which deceased belonged.
