Panther area received approximately 7.5 inches of snow the day prior to George's services Born April 23, 1933, in Perry, IA. He was the son of Edgar and Nettie (Hildreth) Reiste. George grew up working on the family farm in rural Adel. Graduated in 1951 from Washington Township School. George served in the US Army from April 1953 to April 1955 in the Company B - 159th Transportation Battalion. He was stationed in Fort Eustis, VA. His Battalion was the first sent into a newly built training camp. His group was ordered to run the camp. George was in the food service division where he was a cook. George received the National Defense Service Medal and a Marksman pin. After returning home, he worked for Cecil Reed who farmed West of Adel as a hired hand. They developed a family bond over their working relationship. He also worked every Wednesday at the Adel Sale Barn. He was united in marriage to Audrey Jean (Jetter) Reiste on March 31, 1957 at the Panther Creek Church in Adel, IA. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Dan Reiste (Jose) from Ocala, FL, Tim Reiste (Lisa) from Linden, IA, Andy Reiste from Mesquite, TX and Amy Lillegard (Shane) from Bondurant, IA. Proud grandfather to Tyler Reiste, Trevor Reiste, Tierney Reiste, Colton Reiste, Chye Reiste, Colby Lillegard and Tyson Lillegard. George was an excellent horseman. Before and after serving in the Army, he would always have horses that he would break and train for himself and other people. George bought horses for his kids over the years that turned out to be very talented horses in the show and rodeo arenas. George was a very good roper. He was a member of several local Saddle Clubs, and the Central Iowa Quarter Horse Association, Inc. In 1955, he was very involved in helping put on one of the largest Winter Quarter Horse Shows in the Midwest for about 10 years, which was held in Adel, IA. This show attracted exhibitors from 10 -12 states every year, which included several of the top reining and roping horses throughout the U.S. It was also an approved National Cutting Horse Association show. For several years, it was America’s largest one day show out of 695 approved shows held throughout the U.S. and Canada. George was presented a charter membership certificate to the Iowa Cattlemen's Association in June of 1973. George spent most of his working life farming with his dad and as a feeder cattle order buyer mostly for Brenton Farms and Rinehart Farms. He later hauled livestock for many years. George had an excellent eye for cattle. He purchased several steers that would become 4-H Grand Champions for his kids over the years. George enjoyed going to horse shows and 4-H shows to watch his kids show. He also bought several calves for other 4-H kids around the area. George loved to travel with Audrey. He loved to go fishing. He would take a trip every year when the kids were growing up to The Lake Of The Ozarks in MO to go boating and fishing with friends. For several years they owned a lot on Lake Panorama, so they could spend time on the lake boating and fishing. Their biggest trip was a month-long trip to Alaska, a birthday present from Audrey. After Dan moved to Florida, his highlight was fishing in the ocean when visiting Dan. He often visited Andy in TX to go fishing. He also made a couple trips with Andy and Colton to Minnesota to fish as well. After retirement, if you stopped by to visit, George was always watching a rodeo on TV, in hopes to see his grandson Trevor bull riding.
