Description	:	George Frederick Cornwell, age 63, former Athens County auditor, died Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the Veteran's Hospital at Huntington, W. Va. where he had been a patient since last May 6. He had been in ill health for 12 years and had spent several periods previously at the hospital. Mr. Cornwell was born in Athens, a son of George A. and Susan Spaulding Cornwell. He was graduated from Athens High School and later the family moved to Glouster. Read More	George Frederick Cornwell, age 63, former Athens County auditor, died Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the Veteran's Hospital at Huntington, W. Va. where he had been a patient since last May 6. He had been in ill health for 12 years and had spent several periods previously at the hospital. Mr. Cornwell was born in Athens, a son of George A. and Susan Spaulding Cornwell. He was graduated from Athens High School and later the family moved to Glouster. He joined the Regular Army and was stationed at Fort Hayes, Columbus. He served through the Spanish American War as a private in Co. D, 17th Regulars, taking part in the battle of San Juan Hill and El Canay in Cuba. He was discharged in May 1899. Mr. Cornwell married Clara E. Wyatt in 1905. They lived in Glouster until 1919, moving to Athens following his election as county auditor. He served in the county office from 1919 until 1927. He then associated with F. H. Sell & Co., Columbus, blank book manufacturers and later was a state building and loan inspector under Gov. Myers Y. Cooper. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Athens, the Glouster Masonic Lodge, and the United Spanish War Veterans. He leaves his wife, two sons, Foster at home and Walter of Athens; one brother, Charles A. Cornwell of Athens; a sister, Mrs. George Conaway, Youngstown; a half-brother, Harold B. Cornwell of Athens and a grandson, Robert Leslie Cornwell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Dowler & Ferguson Funeral HOme in Athens and burial will be made in the W. Union St. Cemetery.
