GREENEWALDT’S DEATH RECEIVED YESTERDAY BODY WILL BE BROUGHT HERE A Telegram Announces Mr. Greenewaldt’s Death by Falling From a Load of Hay. A telegram was received yesterday morning by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Greenewaldt announcing the accidental death of their son George at Marcus by falling off a load of hay. The time of the unfortunate man’s meeting with the fatal accident was not stated in the telegram, but is presumed to have been early yesterday morning. Mr. Greenewaldt, who was born reared [sic] on the farm near here, moved to Marcus about five years ago and has continued to engage in farming and was considered one of the most prosperous and progressive farmers in that section. He was married here a few years ago to Miss Rose Stoecker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Stoecker of Ceres. He is survived by his widow and two children, besides his parents, three brothers and two sisters. The body is expected to arrive here tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Interment will be made in the City cemetery, but the time of the funeral has not been set at the present writing, although it will likely take place Sunday afternoon. +++ Elkader Register, IA, Thursday, January 3, 1907, pg. 3, col. 3 Henry Gruenewaldt received a telegram from Marcus yesterday morning announcing the death of his son George, on Wednesday, caused by falling off a wagon load of hay and breaking his neck. George Gruenewaldt is thirty-nine years of age. He leaves a wife and two children. He was married at Ceres to Miss Rosa Stoecker, daughter of George Stoecker, Jan. 31, 1900. He had been working at the carpenter trade before he took up farming at Marcus eight years ago. His remains will be brought to Guttenberg, Saturday. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in the City cemetery. +++ Elkader Register, IA, Friday, January 4, 1907, pg. 7, col. 1 The friends of Mrs. Geo. Gruenewaldt, of Marcus, Ia., were saddened Thursday to learn of her husband’s sudden death, which was caused by falling off a load of hay. Funeral services were held Sunday at Guttenberg, the former home of the deceased. Mrs. Gruenewaldt is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stoecker, of Ceres.
