April 19 for George Hamilton Graham, 78, of Monterey, who died Saturday, April 16 at Kings Daughters Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Graham was born Jan. 12, 1888 in Missouri a son of the late George T. and Susan Hamilton Graham. The family moved back to Highland County in 1890 and the deceased spent most of the remainder of his life here. He was engaged in farming most of his life. A veteran of World War I, he volunteered Sept. 15, 1917 at Camp Lee, Va. and served with Company E, 317th Regement, 80th Division in France from May 25, 1918 to June 1, 1919, participating in the battles of Picardy, St Miheil and Meuse-Argonne. He was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the Session and a Sunday School teacher for many years. Survivors are his widow, the former Constance Bird of Monterey; a brother, Uhl L. Graham, of McDowell; a half-brother, Willis B. Graham, of Arlington; a half-sister, Mrs. Lucy Folks of Warm Springs and a number of nieces and nephews. The service was held from his home at Monterey by the Rev. A.E. Johnson, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth D. Amstutz and Pastor Elmer Malcolm. Interment was in Monterey Cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
