"Geo. Hardenbook Buried." - "Geo. Hardenbrook was born in Knox county, Ohio, December 4, 1842, and was called from this world April 25, 1904 at Pueblo, Colorado, aged 61 years, 4 months and 21 days. He came to Iowa in 1865 and settled at Prairie City, Jasper county. About 1871 he came to Exira and started into the drug business on the corner where Nick Doffing & Co. are now located. [1904] He built that building for the purpose that it is now used." "He was married September 1866 to Miss Rebekah Bundy. To them seven children were born, two of whom have preceded the father in death to that unknown world. The remaining children, Blanche Houck of Dexter, Ia.; Edith Colgrove, Lena Brownbridge, and Ross of Arapahoe, Oklahoma; and Bert of Willets Point, N.Y., where he is an officer in the medical department of the regular army." "During the time when dark war clouds hovered over our land, he shouldered a musket and as a private in Company G, 20th Ohio Vols. He helped to uphold the flag and preserve the entirety of our statehood." "He belonged to the Masonic order, joining Preston Lodge No. 218, April 7, 1868. He demitted on May 2, 1871 and was one of the charter members of Exodus lodge No. 342 of Exira in July 1874. He was an ardent pupil of the work of the lodge and filled every office appointive and elective and was Master for several terms. He believed in the principles taught, and practiced their teachings. He demitted from Exodus lodge December 21, 1901, to help organize an order where he resided." "About eleven years ago he went to Oklahoma believing there were better opportunities and succeeded in his business. Two years later the family followed him and their home is at Arapahoe, one of the booming towns of the country. He was a good friend and neighbor, a noble father and a devoted husband. To the loved ones left to mourn, the wife and children, there is the helpful consideration that he was kind and loving and lived as a good man should."
