He died Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at the Heritage of Bel Air, in Norfolk. ——— George Harlan Real was born on Jan. 10, 1930, in Tilden to George and Ida (Wagner) Real. He grew up in Tilden and graduated from Tilden High School in 1948. Following graduation, George entered the U.S. Navy, serving as a storekeeper on the aircraft carrier, USS Valley Forge, during the Korean War. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1952. George returned to Tilden and met and married Joan Gast on Feb. 28, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Meadow Grove. George and Joan made their home in Norfolk. For a short time, he worked as an electrician for Krueger Electric, before starting Real Electric in May of 1965. George retired in 2009. Joan and George were members of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He had been active in the Norfolk Lions Club since 1968. George enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was involved in the Norfolk American Legion and VFW. George and Joan were avid Husker football fans, and they traveled to many bowl games. They enjoyed attending horse races, card clubs and square dancing. He loved his schnauzer dogs. George is survived by his siblings, Alice Ryan, Dorothy Ambroz, Ernest (Irene) Real, Charles Real, Maurice (Phyllis) Real, James Real, Jean Record, William (Randi) Real and Jerry Real and brother-in-law Randall Bogseth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, brother Thomas, sisters Margaret and Mary, and brother-in-law Harold Ryan.
