Description	:	OBITUARY ROOT - Died at his home on the north side, Sunday, October 29, from heart failure, George Harrison Root, age 79 years. With the passing away of Geo. H. Root another of Sioux county's early pioneers is laid to rest. He was born in the state of New York [son of Jonathan Root and Candace Ingram], but moved to Ohio when a boy. Read More	OBITUARY ROOT - Died at his home on the north side, Sunday, October 29, from heart failure, George Harrison Root, age 79 years. With the passing away of Geo. H. Root another of Sioux county's early pioneers is laid to rest. He was born in the state of New York [son of Jonathan Root and Candace Ingram], but moved to Ohio when a boy. He was married in 1837 and his help-meet of fifty-six years still survives him. Just before the war he moved to Appanoose county, this state, and in the fall of 1869 moved with his family to Sioux County. Since coming here he has held various official positions, all of which were filled in a very creditable (sic) and satisfactory manner. He was the first postmaster in the county; was also the first county auditor, and held the office of justice of the peace for a number of years. About two years ago while visiting in Omaha he had an attack of lagrippe from which he never fully recovered. During the past summer he had been very feeble and for nearly a week prior to his death it was seen that life was ebbing away. Mr. Root was a man of a kindly disposition and to know him was to respect and honor him. The funeral services were held at the northside M.E. church yesterday morning, Revs. Suckow and Gill conducting the impressive obsequies. A large concourse of friends and old neighbors followed the remains to their last resting place, tendering their deepest sympathy to the afflicted ones and paying their last sad tribute to the memory of the departed. ******* His siblings include Jonathan and Guy H.
