Battey, 96, formerly of 75 Greenwich blvd., died yesterday at the Woonsocket health Center after illness. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. Larkin Battey. Mr. Battey was a loomfixer at the former East Greenwich Worsted Mill, where he worked for 50 years, and later was an aircraft inspector at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station for five years. He retired in 1947. Mr. Battey was a life member of the East Greenwich Fire Department. He was active in baseball and was a manager, coach and player with the East Greenwich Town Team and a Little League coach. He was a member of the east Greenwich golden Agers. Born Oct 5, 1882, in Lafayette, a son of the late Frank and Anna Battey [not correct- he was the son of Robert Henry Battey and Dinah Brearley] , he had lived in East Greenwich 64 years. He leaves three sons, Raymond A. and George E. Battey, both of East Greenwich, and Joseph R. Battey of North Kingstown; two daughters, Mrs. Alive V. Richtarik and Mrs. Mae B. Briggs, both of East Greenwich; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. from the Hill funeral Home, 822 main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fourth Avenue. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
