Glenn Phillips officiated at the services which were held in Hermanson funeral Chapel. Mrs. John Edenburn was pianist. Pallbearers were James Westerman, Dell Rapids; Elden and John Dieken of George, Iowa; Fred Voels, Joe Dieken of Sioux Falls and Henry Dieken of Hartford. Interment was in the Hartford Cemetery with Hermanson's in charge. George Henry Dieken, son of Margaret and John Dieken, was born June 17, 1891 in German Valley, Stevenson County, Illinois. He attended grade school there and came to South Dakota in 1903 with his parents. The family settled on a farm near Hartford. In 1912 he was United in marriage to Johanna E. Fischer in Canton. They made their home on a farm near Dell Rapids, later moving to a farm near Hartford. In 1935 they again moved to Dell Rapids, and here he lived until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter and three brothers. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Howard Ellingson, (Marcella) of Madison, S.D.; Mrs. Evan Mierkey, (Clara) Colby, Wisconsin; Mrs. Floyd Ritz (Viola) Pasadena, California; three sons, William, Hartford; Edwin and Robert, Dell Rapids; a sister Mrs. Johanna Voels; two brothers, Frank of Sioux Falls and Ben of Little Rock, Iowa; two half-sisters, Mrs. Clifford Callison of California and Mrs. Fred Paulworth of Minnesota; two half brothers John Smiens of Park Rapids, Minnesota, and Frank Smiens of Pierpont, 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
