Description	:	George Henry Rapp, son of John and Anna (Boston) Rapp, was born near Flanagan, Ill, on March 30, 1886 and passed away March 27, 1950 in Jefferson at the age of 63 years 11 months and 27 days. He was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran Church near Flanagan on June 6, 1886. Read More	George Henry Rapp, son of John and Anna (Boston) Rapp, was born near Flanagan, Ill, on March 30, 1886 and passed away March 27, 1950 in Jefferson at the age of 63 years 11 months and 27 days. He was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran Church near Flanagan on June 6, 1886. His sponsor was his uncle, George Rapp. George was confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church near Flanagan on Palm Sunday, April 8, 1900, along with his brother Otto Rapp. George lived at Flanagan, Illinois for 14 years, where he received most of his schooling. He, with his parents, then moved to Pontiac, Ill. in 1900. He farmed with his father until he was married on February 1, 1911 to Nellie May Jenkins at Pontiac. To this union were born five children, one son and four daughters. In the spring of 1914 they came to a farm near Paton where they have since resided. Mr. Rapp was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Flanagan, Illinois and later transferred his membership to the Presbyterian Church at Paton. He has been a trustee and later an elder for 31 years in the Presbyterian Church at Paton. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; one sister, Mrs. Simon Weber (Elizabeth); a sister dying in infancy, two brothers: Louis Rapp and Otto Rapp, and two brothers dying in infancy. Those surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Rapp; one son, Alvin Rapp of Paton, four daughters; (May) Mrs. Albert Estlund of Fort Dodge; (Mildred) Mrs. Tripp Clark of Inglewood, Cal.; (Myrtle) Mrs. Kenneth Pratt of Moline, Ill, and (Leola) Mrs. Donald Peterson of Paton; four grandsons, five granddaughters; four brothers: Edward Rapp, Henry Rapp and Fred Rapp, all of Pontiac, Ill., and William Rapp of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Mary Holzhauer of Long Beach, Cal., other relatives and many friends. At the Methodist Church in Paton, funeral services were held today, Thursday, for George Henry Rapp, with the Rev. Carroll Whitehouse and the Rev. David P. Barker in charge. Interment was in the Paton Township Cemetery in Paton. Casket bearers were Roy Anderson, Leo Thomsen, Wayne Hansen, Wilbur Anderson, Raymond Hansen, and Ronald Rapp. Mrs. Phil Horn and Mrs. Harold Wahl sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide with Me", accompanied by Mrs. Frank Easley. Source: Jefferson Herald of March 30, 1950 _________________________________ George Henry Rapp was born near Flanagan, IL to John and Anna Mae Boston Rapp. He was the grandson of Jacob Rapp who is buried at Minonk, IL and Catharina (Swartz) Rapp who is buried at St. Petri Cemetery in IL; Henry and Elizabeth Boston who are buried at Minonk, IL. He was a brother of Louis Christian Rapp (Bessie Mae Stepp), Edward (Bertha), Otto Rapp (Cora Weber), Elizabeth Rapp Weber (Simon), Mary Rapp Holzhauer (Victor), Frederick William Rapp (Elma Glaser), William Daniel Rapp and Henry Rapp (Katie Theesfeld). According to the 1900 census, his mother had eleven children (eight living). According to the 1910 census, his mother had eleven children (nine living). Henry was born after the 1900 census, so I believe the census has a mistake. I believe it should say twelve children (nine living), so I believe three children died in infancy. Although there are no references to them in censuses, they are mentioned in various family obituaries which differ. The creator of this memorial believes that two of the deceased young children are Carl and Johann (John), and the third was an unnamed baby girl. George lived at Flanagan, and then Pontiac, IL where he farmed with his father. He, his wife and child (May) moved to Paton, Iowa where he farmed. More land was purchased so that 1/2 section (320 acres) became the Rapp property. His son, Alvin, helped with the farming when he was old enough, eventually working all 320 acres after George's death. He became the father of May Elizabeth Rapp Estlund, Mildred June Rapp Clark, Myrtle Marie Rapp Pratt, Alvin LeRoy Rapp and Leola Vaun Rapp Peterson. He would have fourteen grandchildren: James, Garry, Robert and Roger Clark; Linda Pratt, Susan Pratt Sorenson, Mark Pratt and John Pratt; Judy Rapp Bass, Sally Rapp Beisser, Marilynn Rapp Buxton and John Rapp; Joan Peterson Gillum and Carol Peterson Martin, five being born soon after his death.
