Richardson, one of the most active officers of the Newport Historical Society, of which he had been corresponding secretary for many years, died quite suddenly at his home on Whitfield Court on Thursday morning. He was in his 78th year and had been in excellent health until a few days before his death, when hardening of the arteries developed. Besides a widow he leaves one son , Mr. John S. Richardson of Boston, and two daughters, Mrs. William B. Lawton and Mrs. Olivia Richardson. Mr. Richardson was a life long Newporter and was familiar with much of the earlier history of the city. He formerly worked at his trade as carpenter, but of late years, had retired from active work, devoting a large part of his time to the work of the Historical Society. While the new home of the Society was in process of erection he was on the ground personally a large part of the time and looked after the interests of the organization as closely as if he were a highly paid architect. His death comes as a severe blow to his many friends and he will be greatly missed at the rooms of the Society.
