Bultman Dies From A Heart Attack Pioneer Farmer of Vicinity Died Saturday Morning An Octogenarian, He Had Lived In Hawarden and Community for More Than Sixty Years. George Bultman, Sr., a pioneer of the settlers of the Hawarden community, died at his home in Hawarden at 7 A.M. last Saturday morning, following a brief illness from a heart attack. Mr. Bultman had suffered from a heart ailment for some time. However, he was bedfast only five days preceding his death. He was stricken with a heart attack the Sunday previous to his death, after he had driven home from one of his farms. From that time, he grew weaker until death claimed him. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran church in Hawarden at 2 P.M. Monday afternoon, with Rev. C. A. Burkhart in charge. Interment was in the family plot in the Ireton cemetery. George Bultman was born in Hanover, Germany, on April 17, 1855, and died in Hawarden on September 25, 1943, at the advanced age of 88 years, 5 month and 8 days. In 1879, at the age of 24 years, he came to America, locating first at Council bluffs, where he lived for two years. In 1881, he came to this community and purchased a farm southeast of Hawarden, which he retained. Through hard work and thrift, with the aid of his wife, he increased his holdings considerably as years went on. In February 11, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Johanna Busch (Minnie was born in Keokuk County, Iowa on January 17, 1868.. To this union were born thirteen children, three of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and ten children. The children are Mrs. Annie (Anna Theresa BULTMAN Crawford, MY MOMS MOTHER AND MY GRANDMOTHER), Sioux City; Mrs. Sophia Goettsch and Charles, George, Jr., Herman, William and Harry Bultman of Hawarden; Mrs. Mary Baack of Lawton, Iowa; John Bultman of Akron and Mrs. Lena McCormick of Canton. He also is survived by 42 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, John Rhemstedt of Parker, South Dakota is a nephew. About 20 years go, Mr. Bultman retired from active life and came to Hawarden to make his home. Although he had retired, he was out almost daily looking after affairs and giving advice at one of his farms. He was extremely active for a man of his years. When Mr. Bultman adopted America as his home, he became a loyal citizen and was always interested in the welfare of his country as well as of his family. He was one of the organizers of Trinity Lutheran church of Hawarden and was a faithful attendant.
